April 30-May 1 - Travel day

Travel day indeed!

Up, run around checking things, on the road by 11:00 to dash to Orlando Airport, wait for plane, fly to JFK, layover for three hours, on plane for excruciating 7 hour flight, 1/2 hour line thru passport control, get car (with GPS, thank you), re-learn to drive on 'wrong side'.

Pretty much describes the first 15 hours.

Actually we were pretty lucky to get a car with GPS at no additional charge. If not, getting to the apartment would have been very tricky with roundabouts, multiple turns and less than totally acurate driving directions.

We stopped for lunch at Bonnyfoot as there was a roadside sign advertising the Inn. Wrong move as there was a movie company there, filming a documentary. Found a nice place just down the road.

The apartment, named Riverwalk, is a bit spare but very comfortable. It is tucked into a block of apartments behind the University of Scotland, Inverness campus and a church. We are within easy walking distance of the city. Our local representative, Duncan McNaughton, came to welcome us around 6PM after we had a chance to settle in. He gave us our cell phone and a GPS to use (but unneeded.)

Everything we need

What!, no MSNBC?

We are going to meet Duncan at Cowder Castle tomorrow at 10:30 for a private tour of the castle, lunch and a bit of history. After this session, we will begin our wandering through the city. Future explorations will be the Isle of Skye and several scenic drives.

Our first dinner in Inverness was excellent and Nicky Tam's is in the running for a return visit.
